The WLAN connection of my phone is not robust. What can I do?

Some of the early Nokia phones (e.g. E60, E61, E70, N91) with WLAN have firmware issues especially when using the WLAN in ad-hoc mode (direct WLAN connection to a PC). This results in instability of the phone mainly after disconnecting the WLAN connection. Therefore we recommend to reboot the phone after using the WLAN connection.

Tests have shown that the WLAN infrastructure-mode is much more stable than the ad-hoc mode. Therefore if possible configure the WLAN Access Point on the phone in infrastrucure-mode (connection via a WLAN access point).

As Nokia is continuously improving their phone software, it's recommended to update the phone to the latest firmware available under http://europe.nokia.com/A4176089.

Why is it impossible to disconnect the WLAN connection in trendcam.com?

Some of the early Nokia phones with WLAN (e.g. E60, E61, E70, N91) have firmware issues. This may make it impossible to disconnect the WLAN connection by simply using the "Disconnect" menu in trendcam.com.

In order to disconnect the WLAN connection, please start the Connection Manager in the Connectivity folder of the phone and disconnect the WLAN connection.

In some cases disconnecting the WLAN connection via the Connection Manager leads to a reboot of the phone or to WLAN instability (e.g. E60, E61, E70, N91) especially when using the WLAN in ad-hoc mode (direct WLAN connection to a PC). Therefore we recommend to reboot the phone after using the WLAN connection.

Why is it impossible to connect the Nokia E60 in WLAN ad-hoc mode?

Early versions of the Nokia E60 firmware are unable to connect to a local PC in WLAN ad-hoc mode (direct WLAN connection to a PC). Possible workarounds are:

      • Configure the WLAN Access Point on the phone in infrastrucure-mode (connection via a WLAN access point)
      • Update the Nokia E60 to the latest firmware available under http://europe.nokia.com/softwareupdate

      What tool should I use to display live images on my PC?

      Simply use your web browser. As soon as trendcam.com has established a connection to the wireless lan you configured, it will display its IP address in the main application window.

      Type this IP address into your web browser's address bar and you will see the image stream from your mobile phone.

      What user should I use in the Web Browser after configuring a "Web Access Password" on the phone?

      Leave the user name empty and enter the password only.

      How can I integrate trendcam.com with Windows Live Messenger / MSN Messenger, Skype or other webcam capable software?

      trendcam.com comes with a Windows driver which makes it usable as a webcam in many applications supporting webcams.

      We tested trendcam.com successfully with the following applications:

      • Windows Live Messenger / MSN Messenger
      • Skype

      In order to use the trendcam.com Windows driver you need a computer running under Windows 2000/XP/Vista. You can get the trendcam.com Windows driver installer package from the download page. Once, you have installed the driver, you can use trendcam.com just like any other webcam.

      My computer does not run under Windows 2000/XP/Vista. Can I use trendcam.com anyway?

      Sure. You can use the web interface of trendcam.com as long as your computer has a modern web browser installed and a WLAN connection to your mobile phone.

      You will not be able to use trendcam.com like a standard webcam, but you can still use trendcam.com to do present the screen of your mobile phone in full screen on your computer/video projector or remotely watch the phone's current camera image.

      How do i connect trendcam.com to my computer?

      There are two possibilities depending on your local Wireless LAN (WLAN) setup. If your computer is part of an existing WLAN, it is probably connected through a WLAN access point. Then you should choose the infrastructure mode in trendcam.com to connect to the same Wireless LAN access point.

      If your computer is not connected to an existing WLAN, you probably have to establish an Ad-hoc connection between trendcam.com and your PC:

      Is it possible to show the trendcam.com image in full-screen mode?

      Yes. Simply go to your trendcam.com web page and click on the full-screen icon (or double-click the image). This opens a big browser window containing the image.

      In most browsers you can get into full-screen mode by pressing F11. This works best when using Mozilla Firefox 2.0 or Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 because they even hide their control bars once they are in that mode.

      Is it possible to run the Windows driver without administrative privileges

      You do not have to be an administrator to run the Windows driver but you have to install it once, with administrative privileges.

      • Log in with an administrative account
      • Install the PC driver
      • Run the driver setup and enter the IP address as displayed on the phone

      Now, you can login as a a normal user and use trendcam.com in supported applications.

      However, there's one shortcoming: Each time your phone displays a new IP address you have to change it in the Windows driver's settings screen as an administrator.
